La Belle Helene

La Belle Helene

LOGON's first departure from Gilbert & Sullivan was Offenbach's "La Belle Helene" in 1990. This 3 act operetta, with its wonderful melodies was conducted by Aryeh Levanon, the well known Israeli composer, who took over from our musical Director, Eri Doron, due to illness.
Of course, he was greeted every time he appeared for rehearsal with strains of "Erev Ba", his most famous composition.
Helen Benjamin produced with Lynn Friedman assisting as Production Manager.
Based on Greek mythology, Jacobo Kaufman's directorial interpretation called for outlandish costumes and colourful wigs, creating a sense of farce perhaps intended by Offenbach. However the highlight must be Adi Adar's aria in the first act "The Judgement of Paris".
